Friday morning links
September 11, 2015 (2:12 AM) by Matt Benson

I should be in bed as this week has sucked with work but here are some quick links before the weekend.

The US now knows the final two teams in its group for World Cup qualifying and those teams are Vincent & The Grenadines and Guatemala.  They will join the US and Trinidad & Tobago in Group C.

Well done, FUT Azteca.

The US U-23 team won their second friendly this week, a 2-0 victory over Qatar.  The goals were scored by Benji Joya and Gboly Ariyibi.  Here is also a video of their first half of the week in England.

Cody Cropper is going to miss up to six weeks after having some kind of knee surgery this week.  Looks like the U-23s will be going with Zack Steffen or Ethan Horvath next month.

Benji Joya’s ex-partner in crime, Daniel Cuevas, has a new home and it is with Indy Eleven.

Darlington Nagbe is officially a US citizen.  If he gets called up, I am guessing it won’t be until January.  I think Brian Sciaretta has pointed out in the past that only one MLS player has received his first call-up under Klinsmann in a camp other than January and it was Alan Gordon.

COMNEBOL is meeting up with CONCACAF on September 17 to figure out next summer’s Copa America.  As Jeff Carlisle points out, that date is conveniently a couple days after Loretta Lynch has a press conference in Zurich.  And some reports out of Mexico have the FMF supporting a Copa America in the US.  Basically everything comes down to money.

Could we potentially see a MLS vs. Premier League tournament in the future?  Maybe.

English-American goalkeeper Paul Rachubka has signed with Bolton.

Borussia Dortmund had a friendly against St. Pauli this week.  While most of the world wanted to see Adnan Januzaj‘s debut, Christian Pulisic and Junior Flores both came off the bench for Dortmund, while Fabrice Picault scored for St. Pauli.

Also in weird friendlies during the international week, Jann George scored for Jahn Regensburg in their win over Bayern Munich.

We also had a goal in a game that really counted this week.  Joe Broekhuizen came off the bench and scored the lone goal of the game in VPS’ 1-0 win over Ilves in Finland on Thursday.

And finally, here is a behind the scenes look at Christian Eissele’s club in Finland, Kemi Kings.

A couple links for Thursday
September 3, 2015 (1:36 AM) by Matt Benson

A few things for Thursday.

ESPN’s Doug McIntyre has some nuggets from the USMNT camp this week.  Jozy Altidore is playing well, while it looks like the starting fullbacks will be Tim Ream (LB) and Geoff Cameron (RB).  Also, Jurgen Klinsmann reiterated that Brad Guzan is the #1 goalkeeper through at least the CONCACAF Cup.

US Soccer put up a little fun video on whether Gyasi Zardes scored a goal or not on Tim Howard in training.  Looks like a goal to me.

Ben Lederman has been in the news a lot recently and Ives Galarcep is hearing that Lederman is joining the U.S. U-17 residency program in Bradenton, Florida.

Fresh off his assist with Borussia Dortmund’s U-19 team this past weekend (highlights), Christian Pulisic got to train with the first team this week.

Bob Bradley has been doing work in Norway this season with Stabæk sitting in second place with eight games left and now the Fighting Bob Bradleys will have to finish the season strong without their top goal scorer who was sold to Hull City.

Staying in Norway, Kenya Brown spoke to Viking FK defender A.J. Soares.

On loan from Orlando City, Adam Bedell scored three goals in HB Køge’s 6-2 win over Frederikssund in the Danish Cup on Wednesday.  Here is a post-game photo of Bedell.  And here is an intro video courtesy of HB Køge’s Youtube channel.

A couple other transfers to mention with deadline day this week.  Fabrice Picault is now with St. Pauli in Germany.  It looks like Mayowa Alli is on loan with Thisted FC in Denmark.  And Hardin-Simmons product Matt Pitcock has signed with FC Bern in Switzerland.

Tuesday morning links
September 1, 2015 (12:06 AM) by Matt Benson

We have reached the international week and the US has its last two friendlies before the CONCACAF Cup (more on that later).  Here is the roster Jurgen Klinsmann has called in for the friendlies, which is heavy on center backs.

You might have noticed that Timothy Chandler and DaMarcus Beasley were both absent from that roster and that is because they are both hurt and Chandler is going to be out for a while.

One player seeking his first cap is the Wooten Clan, Andrew Wooten.  Brian Sciaretta has some more on him.

While Clint Dempsey is not joining the team until the second game, Seattle Sounders manager Sigi Schmid thinks it is not a given that Dempsey will play with the US due to his hamstring injury.

Brian Straus has a piece up on SI.com on the current roster.

Some of the players went sightseeing yesterday.

Roughly 24,500 tickets have been sold for Friday’s friendly against Peru.

While CONCACAF has cut ties with Traffic Sports, it has partnered with SUM (Soccer United Marketing) to serve as commercial representative for the CONCACAF Cup, which is apparently the new name for the Confederations Cup playoff game.

The US is expected to have a friendly against Costa Rica after the CONCACAF Cup, although a venue hasn’t been selected yet.

Jordan Morris is getting back into form just in time for the CONCACAF Cup.

Darlington Nagbe is expected to become a US citizen in September (he is taking his naturalization test on September 10).

The US U-23 team is in England this week and you can check out that roster here.  US Soccer’s Twitter account has posted a couple photos from the camp (here and here).

The US U-20 team is also beginning a new cycle this month with a tournament in Serbia.  This current roster features two players who play abroad in Hannover 96’s Abuchi Obinwa and Chelsea’s Kyle Scott.

The end of the transfer window for most of Europe is upon us and a couple players have new teams while a couple others are still with their current teams when people thought they would be leaving.

DeAndre Yedlin is still with Tottenham at the moment despite loan interest from various teams across Europe, although signs point towards him ending up somewhere on loan.  My guess at this point would be a loan deal with some team in the English League Championship.

Fulham have decided to keep Emerson Hyndman despite several offers for the US U-23 midfielder.  While he has not featured for the Cottagers this season, he could also go out on loan to another English team.

Remember when the Colorado Rapids oddly sold Shane O’Neill to a team in Cyprus earlier this summer?  Well he has been oddly sold again this month to Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Royal Mouscron-Péruwelz after not appearing in any games for Apollon Limassol.

Bobby Warshaw has left Bærum in Norway for fellow OBOS-ligaen side Hønefoss.  He has already played in two games for Hønefoss over the last two weekends.

Conor O’Brien has a new home and it is with AC Horsens in the Danish 1st Division (second tier).

After six seasons with Helmond Sport, Charles Kazlauskas is now with De Treffers in the Dutch Topklasse (third tier).

The New York Times’ Sam Borden wrote some words on Ben Lederman’s situation at Barcelona.

We had some goals this past weekend.  Aron Johannsson opened up his account at Werder Bremen.  This is actually from last week, but Austin Berry scored his first goal in South Korea.  Christian Eissele now has four goals in four games since returning to Finland after scoring this past weekend.  Our updated goal tracker also has some info on other goals scored this past weekend, including three Americans all scoring for the same team in Malta.

We also had some assists this past weekend from some hype trains.  Gedion Zelalem looks like he is going to do well in Scotland and assisted on another goal.  Here is also a press conference from last week featuring him.  At the U19 level, Christian Pulisic assisted on a goal for Borussia Dortmund.

And no highlights of this one, but Maki Tall had a goal and an assist for FC Sion’s U21 team in a scrimmage.

And finally, Shaquell Moore made his first start for Huracán Valencia this past weekend, going 78 minutes and picking up a yellow card in a 1-1 draw to Valencia II.

Various Bundesliga kits for 2015-16
July 29, 2015 (6:12 AM) by Matt Benson

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while, but here is a bunch of 2015-16 kits for Bundesliga teams featuring Americans this season.

There has been some talk that Julian Green could be headed out on loan this season, but he will have plenty of options of jerseys if he sticks around Bayern Munich (order – home/road/third).

While David Yelldell hasn’t played a league game for Bayer Leverkusen’s senior team since joining the team in 2011-12, he is still on their roster.  And Bayer Leverkusen have three options of kits for 2014-15 (order – home/road/third).

Borussia Dortmund has a few Americans throughout their system in Joe Gyau, Junior Flores and Christian Pulisic.  They also have three different jerseys for 2015-16 (order – home/road/third).

Borussia Mönchengladbach and Kappa always have “interesting” kits and this year will be no different for Fabian Johnson and Mario Rodriguez (order – home/road).

Timothy Chandler is in his second season with Eintracht Frankfurt and they will have a pinstripe shirt much like the Frankfurt team from 1972-73 (order – home/road).

John Brooks and Hertha Berlin will have pretty standard Hertha-like jerseys for this season (order – home/road/third).

Alfredo Morales’ Ingolstadt will be playing in the Bundesliga for the first time in club history and they only have a home jersey out right now.

While Hoffenheim no longer have Fabian Johnson or Danny Williams, Russell Canouse is still with the club and Lotto went a little crazy with their three kits (order -home/road/third).

While Bobby Wood never made it to Stuttgart, Jerome Kiesewetter is still with the club and Puma has three options for them in 2015-16 (order – home/road/third).

Terrence Boyd is slowly working his way back from ACL surgery and RB Leipzig have some pretty basic jerseys waiting for him upon his return this season (order – home/road).

Bobby Wood’s new home for 2015-16 is with Union Berlin.  Union Berlin switched things up this year going with Macron over kit supplier Uhlsport (order – home/road).

And finally, Freiburg boast Caleb Stanko, Eric Lickert, Ethan Sonis and now Zack Steffen among their various teams.  And they have three Nike kits for this season (order – home/road/third).

Have a favorite of the bunch?  Think one is really, really ugly?  As for my own taste, I like Bayern Munich Road, Dortmund Third, Eintracht Frankfurt Home and Freiburg Home.  I dislike basically all the Hoffenheim ones and Borussia Mönchengladbach Road.

Hump day link randomness
April 22, 2015 (12:46 AM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of links that are all over the place.

Roderick is over in Europe on vacation so no The OT Report for this past weekend.  As for some highlights, we had goals by Cole Grossman, Evin Nadaner, Cesar Romero, Björn Maars Johnsen, Jay Denny and a brace by Christian Pulisic.  We also had assists by Joe Corona and Aron JohannssonFreddy Adu made his debut in Finland.  Bobby Wood returned from injury and started for Erzgebirge Aue.

As for the mid week so far, Gedion Zelalem help setup a goal for Arsenal’s U-21 team.  Michael Orozco had an assist as Puebla won the Copa MX final over Chivas (Herculez Gomez watched from the bench).  And Andrija Novakovich scored a goal for Reading’s U-21 team.

The US U-20 team is in Austria this week and here is their roster.  They had a 2-2 draw against Qatar yesterday with the US goals coming from Amando Moreno and Conor Donovan.

The US U-23 team will take on Mexico later tonight at the StubHub Center.  Here is their roster.  Apparently manager Andi Herzog asked Hamburg permission for Julian Green to stay after last week’s friendly against Mexico for this game but they didn’t respond yes to him until Green was already on a plane back to Germany.  Herzog also wants to create a pipeline to the USMNT with the U-23 team.  And  Liviu Bird’s random observation from training earlier this week, Jordan Morris has Type 1 diabetes and tests his blood sugar during training.

For those of you that miss watching grainy Youtube videos of Josh Gatt flying down the wings, we have some good news.  He has been cleared to play again after a couple knee surgeries.

Hannover 96 did some shuffling around of their coaching staff and Steve Cherundolo has been promoted to an assistant.

Greg Seltzer took a look at Danny Williams’ performance in the FA Cup semifinals from the weekend.

The USMNT’s 2-0 victory over Mexico last week did well ratings-wise for Fox Sports 1.

Pele thinks the US should host the 2026 World Cup.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Gedion Zelalem made The Telegraph’s Top 35 hottest prospects in who play in England list.

Mukwelle Akale and Villarreal won the División de Honor Juvenil de Fútbol Group 7 title.

And finally, Tim Ream is better than Jordan Spieth at golf.
