We had two goal scorers on Tuesday. Aron Johannsson scored his 20th goal of the season across all competitions in AZ Alkmaar’s 2-0 win over Roda JC in the Dutch Cup (highlights). Paul Arriola scored again for Dorados in their 3-1 win over Estudiantes Tecos in Copa MX action (highlights).
Stoke City’s website finally announced the Juan Agudelo loan deal yesterday. According to that link, he/Stoke City have to wait four months from the date of the original work permit appeal hearing (his hearing was in late November) before he can re-apply for a UK work permit. Grant Wahl also spoke to Agudelo about everything that has gone down this week. As it says in the Wahl interview, it doesn’t sound highly that he will be able to play this weekend due to paperwork.
Grant Wahl also did a video interview with MLS commissioner Don Garber last week where he talks about a bunch of MLS stuff, including topics like Michael Bradley’s return, Maurice Edu’s potential return and how they haven’t been able to make it work financially to get DaMarcus Beasley back in the league.
Only a couple things USMNT-related for today. A Q&A with Benny Feilhaber and a video with Brad Davis.
Some injury updates.
Fabian Johnson had to be subbed out of a friendly due to a bruised thigh over the weekend. Hopefully it was just a precaution.
John Brooks has returned to training individually off to the side with Hertha Berlin. He picked up his latest knee injury earlier this month.
While it was speculated back in November/December that Jonathan Spector and his thigh injury wouldn’t be able to return until January, it now looks like he won’t be back until the end of February.
Anthony Wallace has been spotted in Sweden trialing with Landskrona BoIS. Landskrona have already signed Americans Paul Torres and Andrew Stadler this offseason.
Daniel Stevens has signed with FC Viikingit in the Finnish Ykkönen (second tier). Stevens scored 12 goals last season with BK-46 in the Kakkonen (third tier).
Fulham’s U-21 team has gone unbeaten in 12 games this season with Emerson Hyndman coming off the bench in their latest 1-0 win over West Ham United.
Finally, Tom Marshall introduces us to two Americans (Joel Soñora and Ryan Palmbaum) moving up the ranks with Boca Juniors’ youth system.
