Friday funday linkaganza
January 16, 2015 (1:16 AM) by Matt Benson

Links and such before the weekend.

So Jozy Altidore is going to officially be with Toronto FC today (before heading to California to join the USMNT).  Here is some video of him arriving at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.  Toronto FC have already changed their Facebook page up a bit.  The official press conference to introduce him will be today at 11 AM Eastern.

Here is a little video of the USMNT training in California.  The team also made a trip to the Staples Center last night to watch the Lakers attempt to play basketball.

Speaking of the NBA, DeAndre Yedlin and Tim Howard both were in London to check out the Bucks-Knicks game at the O2 Arena.  Timmy has going full blown drifter with his look.

Back to the USMNT, FC Dallas defender Matt Hedges has been added to the roster for this month.

Jurgen Klinsmann also recently said that Robbie Rogers would have likely been called into camp if he didn’t split it up between vets and U-23 players.

If you are planning on going to the Gold Cup final, it looks like you can start looking into plans to head to Philadelphia.

Diego Fagundez played with Uruguay’s U-20 team last night at South American U-20 Championship, so he is officially cap tied and can no longer play for the US since he is not a US citizen yet.

According to the Digital Communications Manager at Southampton, Cody Cropper just has a black eye and is fine after his collision on Monday that sent him to the hospital.

The LA Galaxy traded midfielder Marcelo Sarvas to Colorado for the third spot in the allocation order and allocation money, making some people think they are still trying to sign Sacha Kljestan.

US U-18 midfielder Kyle Scott scored a nice goal for Chelsea’s U-21 team earlier this week.

According to Ives Galarcep, Sebastian Lletget is in Spain training with a second division team as he could be headed out (on loan?) this month.

Here is a Google-translated story on Andrew Wooten and his coach Alois Schwartz.

Nermin Crnkic scored a goal earlier this week for Jablonec in a friendly against Atletico Victoria.

Former USMNTer Thomas Dooley has agreed to a two-year extension as manager of the Philippine national team.

And finally, a little poll before the weekend.  How many goals do you think Jozy Altidore will score in MLS regular season play in 2015?

After a few weeks of speculation, DeAndre Yedlin’s transfer to Tottenham has become official.  He will spend the rest of the MLS season with Seattle before joining up with Tottenham for the 2015-16 season.  There is some confusion on what will happen to him between the end of the MLS season and 2015-16 as that is a lot of time (and you would figure that he would be in the USMNT’s plans for the 2015 Gold Cup).

Tottenham’s website has a video interview up with Yedlin.  Ives also got some words from Yedlin about the move.  Once he finally gets to North London, he will become he fourth different American to play for the Spurs in the Premier League.  And to top off the Yedlin links, Grantland did a feature on him earlier this week.

Earlier this week, the FA of Ireland confirmed the rumored USMNT friendly for November.  And now it looks like the rumored friendly against Colombia for September is no longer going to take place.

Michael Stephens, Andrew Jacobson and Bob Bradley are going streaking . . . to the semifinals of the Norwegian Cup after defeating Haugesund on Wednesday (highlights).

Howie posted some US U-23 vs. Bahamas highlights last week, but US Soccer have now put up their own highlights from the match with some post-game comments from Tab Ramos, Luis Gil and Dennis Flores.

Tab Ramos also recently talked to ASN’s Brooke Tunstall about the U-23 development.

According to this report, Thomas Dooley and the Philippines national football were unable to schedule a friendly with the USMNT, so now they are looking into a friendly with the US U-23 team.

Your monthly reminder that Landon Donovan has a great sense of humor.

Timothy Chandler recently took part in a crossbar challenge with some Eintracht Frankfurt teammates for the Bundesliga’s Youtube channel.

Today’s really silly season link of the day:  Barcelona are eyeing Fabian Johnson.

Grant Wahl did a quick video for SI.com about the few Americans in the Premier League.

San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham has been loaned out to Norwegian Adeccoligaen (second tier) side Strømmen.

US U-20 forward Andrija Novakovich scored three goals against AFC Wimbledon in U-21 action over the weekend (highlights).

Some new Americans in Europe.  Connor Brehm has signed with Carrick Rangers and has been loaned out to PSNI.  Both teams play in the Northern Ireland Football League Championship 1.  And goalkeeper Ryan Onwukwe is joining German sixth division club FCA Darmstadt.  Thanks to @WisconsinSoccer for the heads up.

Let’s start with the USMNT.

We know the situation in Ukraine is not pretty right now, so US Soccer is “exploring alternatives” for the friendly on March 5 that is scheduled for Kharkiv.  Kharkiv is about 300 miles away from Kiev, which is where most of the violence is taking place.

Steven Goff is also hearing that the three pre-World Cup friendlies should hopefully be announced by the end of next week.  Still some last details being worked out.

Duane Holmes is headed to Championship side Yeovil Town on a loan until March 23.  This was sort of expected as Huddersfield Town have returned a bunch of players from injury and their manager wanted him to continue to get playing time.  Here is a video interview with Holmes about the move.  Yeovil Town are currently in last place of the Championship.

SI.com has a blog/series up with Oguchi Onyewu talking about his emotions and thoughts with the World Cup coming this summer.

John Brooks returned to the field and played in a friendly for Hertha Berlin earlier this week.  He even scored a goal and you can check out some highlights of that right here (0:51 mark).

Babajide Ogunbiyi returned to Viborg FF’s training on Monday after missing some time with a knee injury.

Michael Stephens is continuing his training/trialing across Sweden.  His latest stop is with Falkenbergs FF.

New York Red Bulls homegrown product Amando Moreno is the latest American to sign with Club Tijuana.

Staying with the Tijuana theme, Bruno Piceno scored a goal for Tijuana’s second-division affiliate Dorados in Copa MX action earlier this week.  Here is a cool behind-the-goal look at his goal.

Goalkeeper Samir Badr has signed with USL’s OKC Energy FC.  Badr was last seen abroad with El Hodood in Egypt, but he never was able to play in a game due to the 2012 season being cut short because of the Al Masry-Al Ahly tragedy.

Kevin Hoyos scored another two goals for Estudiantes de La Plata’s youth team this week.

Former US U-17 forward Alfred Koroma is in Brazil trialing with Fluminense.  He will also be part of a Fluminense U-23 team that will be/is already in Orlando taking on MLS teams during the preseason.

Brazilian-American midfielder Luis Felipe is being called back into the US U-20 team for a camp and games in April’s Dallas Cup.  Felipe currently plays with defending Brazilian league champions Cruzeiro.

It looks like FC Dallas could be sending Bobby Warshaw out on loan again this year and Europe is one of the few spots mentioned over at Big D Soccer.  Warshaw did have some success last season in Sweden with Ängelholm, scoring eight goals in nine league appearances.

And finally, Brian Sciaretta caught up with new Philippines national team manager Thomas Dooley.

A couple things for Tuesday
January 21, 2014 (12:13 AM) by Matt Benson

Let’s start in Brazil.

The US scrimmaged Sao Paulo again yesterday and won the rematch 2-1.  No clue on who scored but here are some more photos.  And here is a diary from the weekend.

FC Utrecht officially announced the loan deal for Juan Agudelo on Monday.

Still nothing really new on the Maurice Edu front, but it sounds like they (MLS and Edu) are still apart on a price.

This is from last week, but here is a video interview by Oguchi Onyewu after signing with Sheffield Wednesday.  Grant Wahl also got some words from Gooch.  And in case you missed it, he has a “hockey” assist in his Wednesday debut over the weekend.

Brek Shea continues to play for Barnsley on his loan and he had a nice back heel pass over the weekend.

Andrew Wooten scored two goals for FSV Frankfurt in a friendly over the weekend.  He has done well in these winter camp friendlies since going out on his loan.

Steven Goff told us about Sebastien Ibeagha trialing in Denmark last week.  Now Brian Sciaretta has found out some more details about his trial with Aalborg BK.

Corey Hertzog’s trial with Falkensberg in Sweden was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

And finally, former USMNTer Thomas Dooley is in the running for the manager job with the Philippines National Team.
