Getting back at it links
December 31, 2013 (1:06 AM) by Matt Benson

Finally back in LA after some family time in Texas.  A couple links from the last week or so.

Lets start off with some highlights from the English League Championship from over the last week.  Both Duane Holmes and Tim Ream picked up assists, so check those out.

Also in the Championship, 18-year-old Gregory (Gboly) Ariyibi made his debut for Leeds over the weekend, coming off the bench in a loss to Eric Lichaj and Nottingham Forest.  Here is a photo of Ariyibi and Lichaj going after a ball against each other.  Ariyibi was born in the US, but I believe he is also eligible to play for Nigeria.

Also over the weekend, Jozy Altidore had a really good chance to score a goal, but things didn’t go his way.

Juan Agudelo hinted at a new move to Europe (although he took the tweet down), but no one appears to have any clue on what team.

Also, can we just pretend that these Michael Bradley to Fulham rumors never existed?  It makes no sense (at least to me) and just smells of the lazy reporting overseas where they just lump an American at one of the same 3-4 clubs where previous Americans played.  Yay silly season!

Stuart Holden wants to be a leader at Bolton once he returns from injury.  And Bolton doesn’t want to rush to put him back in action.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are keeping an eye on Fabian Johnson as he will be allowed to leave on a free transfer this upcoming summer.

Also in Germany, Steve Cherundolo’s Hannover 96 have parted ways with manager Mirko Slomka.

I remember seeing a tweet at one point about Shane O’Neill training with Fulham (which he deleted), but finally some confirmation that he is in West London while his Colorado Rapid teammates Clint Irwin, Dillon Serna and Chris Klute were sent to Everton for some training.

Scott French caught up with Herculez Gomez as he gears up for the Liga MX’s 2014 Clausura, which starts the first weekend in January.

Staying in Mexico, here is an interview with Jose Torres from the Record.

And with 2013 officially coming to an end, Brian Sciaretta gives us his best goals by Americans in 2013.  And while you are at it, take a look at our goal tracker for 2013.  I will start a 2014 one as soon as someone scores a goal on January 1 or later.
