A bunch of links for Thursday
February 19, 2015 (12:19 AM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of stuff to get to today.

Camp Cupcake ended a couple weeks ago so John broke down the USMNT depth chart as we look towards this summer’s Gold Cup.

It has been a good week in Copa MX for various Americans, including goals by Amando Moreno, Stevie Rodriguez and Gabriel Farfan.

Remember this random graphic that aired during a US U-20 game last month that showed two unannounced USMNT friendlies for later this year?  US Soccer shot down the rumor of the Australia friendly.

The new USMNT away jersey became a real thing this week.  And this is what the pre-match and training tops look like.  Then while browsing World Soccer Shop, I stumbled across the socks and anthem jackets.

Winter is coming.  Multiple sources have told Grant Wahl that the 2022 World Cup moving to November and December is a done deal.

Fitness.  Fitness.  Fitness.  Matt Besler made some comments then Jurgen Klinsmann tweeted something out and now Besler has to make another comment.  I hate fitness-gate.  Moving on.

Julian Green scored a goal in a friendly yesterday as Hamburg U-23s beat some fifth division team 13-2.

I’m assuming it was because I was in attendance, but Joe Corona was named to ESPN’s Liga MX Team of the Week.

Robbie Kristo has signed with Serie B side Spezia Calcio.

Alfred Koroma has signed with SV Lafnitz in the Austrian Regionalliga (third division).

A.J. Soares played 45 minutes for Viking FK while on trial in a preseason friendly against Vålerenga yesterday.

In the FA Youth Cup quarterfinals this week, Kyle Scott (started and played 97 minutes) and Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 3-0.  And Cameron Carter-Vickers (started and played 90 minutes) and Tottenham defeated Nottingham Forest 2-1.

Ariel Lassiter has been called up by Costa Rica’s U-23 team for the IMG Suncoast Pro Classic in Bradenton, Florida.

Greg Seltzer caught up with Rhett Bernstein as Mjøndalen begin play in the Tippeligaen in a couple of months after earning promotion last year.

Ryan Adeleye is now with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, but he spoke to NASL.com about his time in Israel.

George Mason product Chase Miller has signed with Swedish club Bodens BK.  Here is a video of Miller talking while he was on trial a couple weeks ago.

And finally, it looks like the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship will be on Fox Sports 2, while the US U-20’s games at the U-20 World Cup will be on Fox Sports 1.

Dorados vs. Irapuato Highlights
February 18, 2015 (7:35 AM) by Matt Benson

Stevie Rodriguez got the start and scored a goal for Tijuana second-division affiliate Dorados (currently on loan) in their 3-0 win over Irapuato in Copa MX action last night.  Here are some highlights with Rodriguez’s goal coming at the 0:14 mark.

The post-international window links
November 21, 2013 (12:02 AM) by Matt Benson

The international window has ended and now it is the return of some links.

The big news from Wednesday was that Juan Agudelo’s work permit appeal was denied.  It looks like Stoke City officials were stunned by the decision.  And Kenny Dalglish, Jurgen Klinsman and Mark Hughes were there to argue in his favor.

Brian Sciaretta talked to Terrence Boyd after the game in Austria.

On the injury front, Danny Williams could be available for Reading this weekend as they take on Blackburn Rovers.

It sounds like the earliest we could see Jonathan Spector return to the field after his thigh injury is at the end of the month.  Spector has started running again according manager Lee Clark.

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba thinks Stuart Holden is the best player that he has played with during his career.

Andrew Wooten and Kaiserslautern defeated Idar-Oberstein, 5-0, in a friendly during the international window this week.  Wooten was one of the goal scorers and you can see his goal at the 3:37 mark of this video.

Esteban Rodriguez played on the US U-17 team at the 2011 U-17 World Cup and is now with Tijuana’s U-20 team.  He scored a pretty sweet goal this week at the 1:45 mark of this video.

It is likely that Clint Dempsey will head back to England for a winter loan and one of the first rumors has West Ham United as the early leaders (which probably means he won’t end up there).

It is also that time of year when MLS players head to Europe for training stints.  LA Galaxy youngster Jack McBean is already in England doing stints with Wolverhampton and Blackburn Rovers.  Chicago Fire players Dilly Duka and Victor Pineda are headed to Spain to train with Atlético Madrid.  And DeAndre Yedlin could be headed to Germany to train with Steve Cherundolo and Hannover 96.

Ljungskile SK are overhauling their roster this offseason.  You can now add Paul Tracy to the list of Americans who are parting ways with the club (also Patrick Hopkins and Pat McMahon).  That leaves Charlie Campbell and Aaron Nichols as the only Americans still at the club.  And they have brought in Los Angeles Blues defender Cory Miller for a trial.  Ljungskile SK likes themselves some Americans.

Now that we know all 32 teams for the World Cup, here is that World Cup draw simulator again.  I just got the US in a group with Argentina, France and Portugal.  Ouch.

And courtesy of Brian Straus, here are all 32 badges from the teams who made the World Cup.  I probably like the Netherlands’ badge the most.
