Tuesday morning link thing
July 29, 2014 (12:21 AM) by Matt Benson

Some more links for your Tuesday morning reading pleasure.

Let’s start off with a stupid but awesome USMNT shirt.

Julian Green doesn’t want a loan and wants to break into the Bayern Munich lineup.  Here is also an adorable photo of him as a young kid cheering on Bayern Munich with his dad.

According to Sunderland manager Gus Poyet, Jozy Altidore’s hamstring is now fine.

I posted last week about Danny Williams’ surgery.  It now looks like he was told by the club to have surgery over the summer while he tried to avoid having it.  But he is going to be out several weeks.

Brad Guzan is aware that he has to prove himself if he wants to take over the #1 job for the USMNT.

The player currently in front of him for that spot, Tim Howard, will be wearing purple in away games this season with Everton.

Geoff Cameron talked to the people over at New England Soccer Today about his World Cup experience.

We learned about Terrence Boyd’s ACL yesterday, but here is an interview he did in Germany last week prior to his injury.  And the headline/quote is funny.

Bundesliga.com did a little write up on a few of the Americans who play among the various leagues in Germany.

US U-20 midfielder Eric Lickert was last seen with SC Freiburg’s U-19 team last year, but he signed a professional contract with German 3. Liga side SpVgg Unterhaching for this season.

With the European season starting up, Brian Sciaretta wrote about five prospects who could make their debuts this year.  Mr. Sciaretta also talked to Pablo Punyed last week about playing in Europa League.

Here is a cool photo of Bobby Wood and Brek Shea from this past weekend’s friendly between their respective clubs.

According to this report, Jonathan Spector has a “niggle in his groin.”  I’m assuming that is like a strain.

Jon-Paul Pittman’s trial with English Conference National side Grimsby Town wasn’t very long as they ended up signing him on a one-year deal.

Mukwelle Akale scored a goal for Villarreal’s U-18 team over the weekend and Top Drawer Soccer has the footage of the goal.

Cal Poly’s Ariel Lassiter signed a professional contract with Swedish Superttan side GAIS.  He will now become teammates with Bobby Warshaw.

While FIFA updated their rankings a week or so ago.  Elo, who I personally like a little bit more, finally updated their numbers post-World Cup.  The US dropped from #13 to #17.  Costa Rica is now #15, while Mexico is now #11.

And finally, we are slowly adding more content to the site aside from highlights and links over the next couple months.  I know one interview of someone who plays in Germany will hopefully be up on the site in the next couple of days.  There is also going to be some other more opinionated-type stuff on the USMNT coming out soon as well.  Plus, I will keep posting Jermaine Jones Instagram photos.

A lot of linkage for Tuesday
July 22, 2014 (12:01 AM) by Matt Benson

Want some links?  Well, here you go.

The big news of the weekend was that Matt Besler and Graham Zusi signed DP contracts through 2018 with Kansas City.  Besler wrote a letter to Kansas City fans explaining why he decided to stay in KC.  There are now nine current USMNT players with DP contracts in MLS.

MLS Insider did a video on the MLS players on the USMNT returning from Brazil.

No team ran more in the field (per game) than the US at the World Cup.

The US U-20 team won the NTC Invitational last week.  You can watch the entire game against Australia right here.  US Soccer also has a video up with some post-game reactions from Tab Ramos and Paul Arriola.

According to Greg Seltzer, DeAndre Yedlin to Roma is dead.  There are still other teams interested in him.

And according to Steven Goff, free agent DaMarcus Beasley is close to signing with MLS.  And something could be finalized by the end of the week.

Not really a surprise, but Julian Green was named to Bayern Munich’s roster for their US tour.  They will take on the MLS All-Stars in Portland on August 6.

Brek Shea played 45 minutes in the second half of Stoke City’s 1-1 draw to Borussia Monchengladbach in a friendly over the weekend.  According to reviews that I have read, he played well and you can watch the entire second half right here.

Joe Gyau scored Borussia Dortmund’s winning goal in a 4-3 win over Heidenheim in a friendly on Saturday.  Here are a couple photos of Gyau in action.  Kicker also listed Gyau in their top 20 players in 3. Liga for this upcoming season (if he stays with Dortmund’s U-23 team).

Duane Holmes scored one goal and assisted on another in Huddersfield Town’s 4-1 win over Guiseley in a friendly on Monday.

Shawn Parker scored the game-tying goal in FC Augsburg’s 3-3 draw to Ulm in some more friendly action on Monday.

Shawn’s brother, Devante Parker, picked up an ankle injury in a friendly against Kaiserslautern.

Rubio Rubin had to leave a game early this weekend after having a nasty collision which required some kind of facial surgery yesterday.

Sebastian Lletget assisted on a goal in West Ham U-21’s 4-2 win over a Espanyol youth team.

Danny Barbir continues to score goals for West Brom’s U-18 team.

Edgar Castillo made his Atlas Liga MX debut over the weekend and he is wearing the rare #1 for a field player.

After his World Cup vacation, Timothy Chandler is now in training with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Clint Dempsey will be on the North America covers of FIFA 15.

Jon-Paul Pittman’s quest to find a new team now sees him trialing with Grimsby Town.

Brandon McDonald and Swedish side Ljungskile have parted ways.

The Lancashire Telegraph has a story up about Adam Henley trying to earn a starting spot with Blackburn Rovers this season.

Nicholas Gaitan has been promoted to OFI Crete’s first team for this season.

The New York Daily News is reporting that 14-year-old Noah Leeds was offered a place in Sevilla FC’s youth academy.

That is it for links.  I should be posting a little stats thing tomorrow.

Friday morning links
September 27, 2013 (8:30 AM) by Matt Benson

We have had some hat tricks this week.  Aron Johannsson scored one on Wednesday.  Herculez Gomez had one last night.  And there have been four of them this month.

US Soccer released its financial statements for April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013.  Steven Goff and Ryan Rosenblatt did all the digging through the data for us.

It is starting to look like Jozy Altidore’s new manager at Sunderland will be Gus Poyet.  Poyet last managed Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Championship.

Bob Bradley and Egypt will get some fans in the stands when it hosts its second-leg World Cup qualifier against Ghana on November 19.

Everyone keeps doing these “Top X Players Under X Years Old” lists recently, so here is Tom Marshall’s top five US players under 24 down in Mexico.

Kevin Hoyos seems to be the player du jour after scoring earlier this week, so here is a story from Brian Sciaretta and one from Tom Marshall.

Brian Sciaretta also introduces us to Nicholas Gaitan, a U-20 player currently playing in Greece.

According to Steven Goff, Junior Flores will not be with the US U-18 team in California next month because of a commitment with Borussia Dortmund.  Since it is only a training camp, I don’t think this will be a huge loss.
