Tab Ramos names 22-man roster for training camp in Italy
November 8, 2013 (12:39 PM) by Howie Michaels

While more attention will be on the senior squad’s friendlies against Scotland and Austria, the U-20s will take on Iran’s U-20, Hellas Verona’s academy, and a to-be-named opponent (I’m leading towards Escalus FC, although I’d be fine with Mercutio).

In order to play a match, of course, you need players, and Tab Ramos will have 22 to pick from.

GOALKEEPERS (2): Santiago Castano (New York Red Bulls; Union City, N.J.), Ethan Horvath (Molde FK; Highlands Ranch, Colo.)

DEFENDERS (6):Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas; Plano, Texas), Conor Donovan (Capital Area RailHawks Academy; Fuquay Varina, N.C.), Matias Fracchia (NJSA 04; Roselle Park, N.J.), Matthew Miazga (New York Red Bulls; Clifton, N.J.), Shaquell Moore (IMG Academy; Powder Springs, Ga.), John Requejo Jr. (Real So Cal; Carpinteria, Calif.)

MIDFIELDERS (8):Russell Canouse (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim; Lancaster, Pa.), Marco Delgado (Chivas USA; Glendora, Calif.), Junior Flores (Borussia Dortmund; Manassas Park, Va.), Romain Gall (FC Lorient; Herndon, Va.), Lynden Gooch (Sunderland AFC; Santa Cruz, Calif.), Emerson Hyndman (Fulham FC; Plano, Texas), Kristian Scott (Swansea City AFC; Winterbourne, Bristol), Omar Thompson (Wigan Athletic; Miami, Fla.)

FORWARDS (6):Kainoa Bailey (Bayer 04 Leverkusen; Henderson, Nev.), Benji Lopez (Real Salt Lake; San Diego, Calif.), Amando Moreno (New York Red Bulls; Morganville, N.J.), Zach Pfeffer (TSG 1899 Hoffenheim; Dresher, Pa.), Rubio Rubin (Unattached; Beaverton, Ore.), Ben Spencer (Molde FK; Albuquerque, N.M.)

US Soccer also subtly breaks the news that Molde has been annexed by Sweden. Seems odd to add an exclave like that, but that’s European politics for you.

Eleven players are based with European teams from four different nations: England, France, Germany and Sweden. England and Germany are most prominently represented with four players each; Sweden has two from Molde FK and France one from FC Lorient.

To my knowledge, these matches will not be streamed or broad/narrowcasted in any manner, but if we learn otherwise, we will certainly share that information so that we can all overreact.

Thursday morning linkage
September 19, 2013 (12:40 AM) by Matt Benson

Some housekeeping from the last couple of days.

Tim Ream continues to play central/defensive midfield for Bolton and has an assist on Tuesday in a 2-2 draw (highlights).  Mark Yesilevskiy talked about his recent good play over at Lion Of Vienna Suite.

Eric Lichaj also had an assist on Tuesday in Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw (highlights).

Also in the Championship, Danny Williams assisted on Reading’s injury time game winner on Wednesday.  Seeing how more and more Championship teams are embracing Youtube (like the links above), hopefully there will be highlights of this tomorrow.

Alonso Hernandez help create Monterrey’s game-winning goal in their 1-0 win over Puebla Copa MX action on Tuesday (highlights).

Chukwudi Chijindu scored his eighth goal of the season in Thór’s 2-2 draw to Keflavík in Iceland on Wednesday.  His eight goals are tied for the sixth most in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild.  As always, our goal tracker is updated with his goal and others from the last week.

Apparently Mexico are going after Luis Gil.  Oh hell no.

If you score a couple of goals in Europe, there is a good chance Brian Sciaretta will talk to you.  This happened to Babajide Ogunbiyi this week.

British-American youth player Kris Scott (not to be confused with his brother Kyle Scott who broke his leg in February) signed a two-year deal with Swansea City after being with Stoke City.

Mr. Sciaretta also spoke to Omar Thompson this week who recently signed a pro deal with Wigan.

Top Draw Soccer tells us about youth goalkeeper’s Al Simpson’s training stints with various teams in England in the last couple months.

Jozy Altidore is already scoring at Sunderland & other links
July 11, 2013 (12:01 AM) by Matt Benson

Jozy Altidore officially became a member of Sunderland on Monday.  And on Tuesday, he was with the team in Italy and scoring a goal in a preseason friendly.  Here is a photo of Jozy from that game.  And here is a story from Sunderland’s website with some quotes from Altidore about signing with the team.

While Jozy has scored four goals in his last four games with the USMNT, Chris Wondow…..I mean Wondolowski has scored four in his last two games.  And in a cool story, Drew Carey donated some money to two charities in order to buy the “Wondowlowski” jersey.

Jurgen Klinsmann told the press after Tuesday’s game that he did not start Stuart Holden, Oguchi Onyewu or Herculez Gomez due to their prior knee injuries and the turf field at Jeld-Wen Field.

US Soccer has added two videos to their YouTube channel this week, field-level highlights from last Friday’s game against Guatemala and a video of Holden breaking down his first career USMNT goal from 2009.

While Jozy is no longer at AZ Alkmaar, here is what Aron Johannsson and AZ will be wearing next year.  Some interesting collars.

Tony Taylor scored another goal for AC Omonia in a preseason friendly against Xanthi Skoda on Tuesday.  Taylor scored last week against Hapoel Tel Aviv and here are highlights from that game (Taylor’s goal is around the 9:40 mark).

Bryan Gerzicich is now at Hapoel Tel Aviv and Brian Sciaretta got some quotes from him about the move.  Sciaretta also talked to Diego Chavarri about his loan move to Iran.

Here is a story from a local Reading paper on Danny Williams.  It also includes this photo of him from training.

The Daily Mail (yeah, I know) is saying Maurice Edu will be making a permanent move back to Bursaspor.  Edu played in only one league game for Stoke City in 2012-13 before going out on loan to Bursaspor and appearing in 11 league games before ending the season with an injury.

Seb Hines hasn’t been participating with Middlesbrough’s preseason as he continues to rehab from knee surgery.

While he likely won’t play much with Bayern Munich’s senior team during the season, Julian Green continues to see the field with the first team during the preseason.

Michael Hoyos is headed to Greece to play with OFI this upcoming season on a season-long loan.  He also wants to play for the US.

Tyler Ruthven is no longer with IK Brage in Sweden.

Want some news on some youth players?  Emerson Hyndman, FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman’s grandson, has signed an extension with Fulham.  And US U-18 midfielder Omar Thompson has signed a professional contract with Wigan Athletic.
