A bunch of links randomness for Tuesday
March 3, 2015 (12:35 AM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of good stuff for you on this Tuesday.

This past weekend had some action on the field.  Fabian Johnson scored his first goal with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Aron Johannsson and Tim Ream both returned from their injuries.  Roderick has you covered with everyone in The OT Report.

Want to see some highlights of the goals scored this weekend?  Here you go:  Fabian Johnson, Junior Flores, Conor O’Brien and Marc Heider.

The US U-17 team began play at the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship with a 5-0 win over Cuba on Friday (highlights) followed with a 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago yesterday (highlights).  Joe Gallardo (four goals) and Christian Pulisic have been the US’s two best players in my non-expert opinion so far.

While the US U-20 team gets ready for the World Cup, they will face England’s U-20 team and Tottenham’s U-21 team in some friendlies at the end of the month.

One US U-20 player, Lynden Gooch, is now with English Conference Premier side Gateshead FC on loan for 28 days to get some playing time.  He already made his debut over the weekend and here is a photo him in a Gateshead jersey.

According to one report out of Germany, Jurgen Klinsmann might call up Ashton Götz for the US friendlies and camp this month even though he doesn’t have his US passport yet (he wouldn’t be able to play in the games but he could train with the team).

There were some rumors that Sebastian Lletget signed with the LA Galaxy this weekend, but his agent shot down those rumors.

It looks like Freddy Adu could be headed to Sweden to sign with a real team according to Ives Galarcep.  If true, this would be his 11th different team in his eighth different country since becoming a pro in 2004.  Over that same time, I have lived in two different apartments and have had the same job.

Continuing with the rumors, this report claims Fabian Johnson has been scouted recently by Barcelona as he is one of a few players on their list of potential fullbacks since Dani Alves’ contract ends this summer.

Jose Mourinho might want an American goalkeeper on Chelsea and apparently he is looking at Old Man Friedel among some other [non-American] veteran keepers.

According to Bild, Bobby Wood’s knee injury might not be as bad as first thought (his meniscus is not damaged as initially suspected) and he might only be out five weeks.

Tim Howard (and Everton) is the only American left in Europa League and the Toffees will face Dynamo Kyiv in the Round of 16.

Here is a recent video interview with Bob Bradley.  Speaking of Coach Sweatpants, I guess there was a rumor that he interviewed with Danish club Aalborg for their manager opening, but Greg Seltzer is hearing from a couple sources that this is not true.

Goalkeeper Brendan Moore has signed with English League One side Fleetwood Town.

Georgian-American midfielder Zourab Tsiskaridze has signed with NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions.  He was last seen with Bangkok Glass in Thailand.

Barcelona youngster Ben Lederman is currently in playing purgatory as part of the team’s injunction that retroactively disqualified many academy players.  Some guys just got cleared to play again but not Lederman.

And also thanks to Josh Deaver, I am now aware of a second American at Barcelona.  Konrad de la Fuente is a U-14 forward and he scored a goal back in early February for Barca’s Infantil A.

Some links and whatnot for Tuesday
November 4, 2014 (7:45 AM) by Matt Benson

If you haven’t already, you should check out John’s 23 Names for the 2015 Gold Cup Roster (November Edition).  He has 53 players on his radar for the 23 spots.

Let’s start off with some leftovers from last Friday.  Oguchi Onyewu is showing off the importance of having an EU passport as he continues to find work in England as he signed with Charlton Athletic until January.

CONCACAF held the draw for the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship last week and the US U-20 team has learned its fate.

We had some goals this weekend.  Marc Heider seems to score every other weekend in Germany.  Devann Yao has popped up in Germany and scored in the Regionalliga.  Bobby Warshaw scored a nice game-tying goal in Norway on Sunday.  And it wasn’t a goal, but Rubio Rubin picked up his fourth assist of the season on Saturday (I might have more on this tomorrow).

Also this past weekend, Aron Johannsson made his return to league play, going the full 90 minutes in a 3-3 draw.  Here is a photo of ArJo in action.

Danny Williams also made his return to the field this weekend, coming off the bench in Reading’s 3-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers.

And Terrence Boyd continues to get more playing time after coming back from his injury, playing the last 36 minutes of RB Leipzig’s 0-0 draw on Monday.  Here is a photo of him in action.

Jake Keegan and Galway FC won their promotion playoff series against UCD last Friday (5-1 on aggregate) and will be playing in the top flight league in Ireland next year.  Here is a photo of Keegan celebrating the win.  If you are out of the loop on Mr. Keegan, RJ talked to him last month about his long adventure from the US to Ireland.

Greg Seltzer takes a look at some possible January transfer scenarios for Jozy Altidore, Mix Diskerud and Brek Shea.  One of the teams mentioned for Altidore is the French side Lille and there might be some more to this possible loan according to this tweet from a reporter who follows the French league.  I think we are all in agreement that Jozy just needs to get out of Sunderland.

Jonathan Bornstein (remember him?!) will be out at least two months after having surgery on his foot.

This is a fun read on former CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer.  He was an FBI informant at one point and he had a Trump Tower apartment for his cats.  I am not making this up.

I am not sponsored by World Soccer Shop, but they have a great sale going on right now for the US’s home jersey (only $39.99).  Too good of a deal not to post.

Tim Howard has an autobiography coming out on December 9.  You should buy it just for the front cover photo of his beard.

I was watching Monday Night Football last night when I spotted an American Outlaws shirt on a commercial for ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown.  Soccer has finally made it in America!

Want some Landon Donovan videos?  US Soccer has a nice video recap of his last game with the USMNT.  And Grantland has their second episode of their mini-series following Donovan at the end of his career.

Will has you covered with your monthly update of American goalkeepers all across the world.

And let’s end this with Howie giving you your monthly reminder.
