Brendan King leaves Norway for the Chicago Fire
January 31, 2013 (2:09 PM) by Howie Michaels

After brief stints with Bray Wanderers in the League of Ireland and the Adeccoligaen (Norweigan 2nd division), former Notre Dame midfielder Brendan King has returned to the United States and signed with the Chicago Fire.

While King was drafted by Portland in the second round of last year’s SuperDraft, he opted to try to his fortunes in Europe (where he was part of a relegated team in Norway). He is a native of the Chicago suburb, so it’s a fairly logical move for him as he looks to make an impact in MLS.

Norway’s First Division Playoffs
   November 14, 2012 (1:52 AM) by David

Norway First Division Playoffs

With all the accolades for Norway Eliteserien Champions Molde, and USMNT/Molde forward Josh Gatt, lost in the noise is the promotional playoff situation for teams in Norway’s First Division.

While Eliteserien has one more week of the regular season left, the First Division is complete and now moves on to promotion/relegation playoffs. While the Eliteserien relegation picture will not be decided until this weekend, the First Division promotional playoffs start today.

How it Works

The Eliteserien will relegate three teams. Stabaek are relegated already, while three other teams are trying to stave off relegation (one will be automatically relegated). The team finishing above the bottom two will enter into the relegation playoff.

The First Division will promote three teams. Start and Sarpsborg 08 are promoted already. The four teams (places three through six) now enter the promotional playoff. Sandefjord #3, Mjondalen #4, Bodo/Glimt #5 and Ullensaker #6, will play the first round today followed by the final qualifier this weekend.

#4 Mjondalen  v  #5 Bodo/Glimt

#3 Sandefjord  v  #6 Ullensaker

The winner of the final qualifier will then play the Eliteserien team that qualified as relegation playoff.

US Player Involvement

Two of the four teams vying for the First Division promotion playoffs have US players:

#4 Mjondalen                    Rhett Bernstein and Kyle Helton

#6 Ullensaker                    Kenneth Di Vita Jensen

Fourth place Mjondalen gets to play at home and will be favorites to advance. Ullensaker, who went through a mini-collapse at the end of the regular season, will have to visit third place Sandefjord.

At the bottom

A number of US players leave First Division with their clubs due to relegation to Second Division.

Baerum                                Sebastion Troupe            Despite a late season run ended in 14th place

Alta IF                                  Brendan King                    Finished in last place, 16th

A little bit of this and a little bit of that
July 16, 2012 (10:34 PM) by Matt Benson

Nothing like posting some links while the Real Housewives of Orange County yell at each other in the background (please save me!).

While it looked like Geoff Cameron was close to heading to Stoke City last week, it now appears that Stoke City and MLS are a good million dollars away from agreeing on something.

Michael Bradley is officially at Roma and here is some footage from his first day at practice (thanks to Armando for sending this in).

Carlos Bocanegra and Maurice Edu got blessing from the new ownership at Rangers to leave the club and look for a new team.

Charlie Davies did not make his Randers debut this past weekend, but he talked to Brian Sciaretta about his move to Denmark.

Ryan Bacic caught up with Brendan King about his new home at Bray Wanderers in Ireland.

Anton Peterlin is no longer on trial at Hearts.

Here is what Robbie Findley and Nottingham Forest will be wearing in home games this upcoming season.  I have always liked their tree badge/logo.

Brian Span came off the bench and played 45 minutes today in Djurgården’s 1-1 draw to Norrköping.

The second-qualifying round of Champions League starts up this week with Bryan Gerzicich and Ironi Kiryat Shmona playing Žilina tomorrow and Josh Gatt/Molde FK and Daniel Brkovic/Željezničar both playing on Wednesday.

News and links from around the interwebs

Where shall we begin?

Stuart Holden has begun light training with Bolton this week.

EPL Talk has the Premier League TV schedule for the first couple months of the season for those of us living in the US.

Bryan Gerzicich has officially re-signed with Israeli Premier League champions Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona.

Sebastian Lletget was recently interviewed by West Ham’s website about training with the first team this preseason.

Both Alfredo Morales and Anthony Brooks have been receiving playing time with Hertha Berlin’s first team this preseason.  Morales played in eight league games with the first team last season, but Brooks was actually demoted from the U-23 team to the U-19 team at the end of last season.  Both should hopefully get a chance at first team playing time with Hertha Berlin in the 2. Bundesliga this year.

Timothy Chandler had an assist in Nurnberg’s latest preseason friendly against Eintracht Bamberg.

Parker Walsh is training with German 2. Bundesliga club Energie Cottbus this week.

A good day for a couple Americans on Finnish side Kemi Kings yesterday.  Christian Eissele recorded a hat trick, while Daniel Stevens scored a brace in Kemi Kings’ 5-0 victory over HauPa.

Former US U-17/U-20 winger Brendan King has signed with League of Ireland Premier Division club Bray Wanderers.  King was taken in the second round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by Portland.

Central defender Mike Jones has signed with Danish First Division side FC Hjørring.  Jones was drafted in the 2011 Supplemental Draft by Sporting Kansas City before landing on New York and appearing in two games last season.

And finally, this video is awesome.
