Some news and notes for Monday.
As posted before, it looks like May’s USMNT friendly against Brazil will be held at FedEx Field in Maryland. Steven Goff is also hearing that the US will play Scotland at a venue to be determined during that same international break. And that US Soccer would like to schedule one more friendly against someone else before World Cup qualification begins in June.
The US kicks off qualification against Antigua & Barbuda on June 8 at a venue to be determined in the US. As I have posted on here before, I have personally heard/have been hinted at that a US match would be held in Los Angeles in June, so I am guessing the third friendly or the Antigua & Barbuda game will be in Los Angeles. My personal guess is that the Antigua & Barbuda qualifier being played at the Home Depot Center. That said, an official announcement is expected to be made by US Soccer in the next ten days.
Robbie Rogers will be among the players dressing for Leeds United tomorrow, although his playing time is not guaranteed since he has only been training with the team since this weekend since picking up his visa.
In the out of left field category. . .since retiring from DC United, Santino Quaranta can now be found in the Indian Premier League playing for manager Marco Etcheverry and alongside centerback Fabio Cannavaro.
Edson Buddle has decided not to sign with Belgian side KVC Westerlo according to team officials. Where does Buddle end up next? Who knows.
As for another Belgian Pro League team, Gent, they are apparently in negotiations with Stabæk for the services of midfielder Mikkel Diskerud. As mentioned on here before, Stabæk seem to be in financial trouble and are looking to sell off players. A move to Gent would be an upgrade for Mix and we could have potential Belgian Pro League playoff matchups between Mix’s hair and Sacha Kljestan’s mustache.
And finally, the guys over at the Total Soccer Show did a recent podcast/recap on the most anticipated FA Cup fourth round matchup in US Soccer history: Donovan vs. Dempsey.
