Tuesday late night links
April 17, 2012 (10:53 PM) by Matt Benson

A few things for Tuesday.

Brian Sciaretta talked to Tab Ramos recently about the U-20 team with their camp talking place in Portland right now.  Of the biggest news, at least in my opinion, it is starting to look like West Ham United left back Danny Potts might not be eligible to play for the US after all.  Boo.

As for some more injury updates.  FC Nordsjaelland doesn’t think Michael Parkhurst’s broken toe will be a long-term issue.  I guess he has been playing with it the last couple weeks and they just want to give him some rest.

Zak Whitbread has missed Norwich City’s last three games with a calf issue.

And as expected, Robbie Rogers will likely miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

Two Americans saw the field today.  Frank Simek went the full 90 minutes in Carlisle United’s 1-0 loss to Stevenage.  And Neal Kitson was credited with an own goal in Northampton Town’s 3-1 loss to Crawley Town.

Speaking of Kitson, Brendan Wimberly has an interview with the goalkeeper up at Yanks Abroad.

Arch Bell, writing for ESPN.com, talked to Claudio Reyna about his vision for US Soccer.

Danny Potts gets England U-18 call-up and I am sort of back
February 14, 2012 (11:58 AM) by Matt Benson

I am still playing catch-up on the things I missed over the last five days, but it looks like England called in left back Danny Potts for a friendly against Poland’s U-18 team next month.

The 17-year-old has dual eligibility between England and the United States and took part in a US U-20 camp last year.  I think it will be tough for him to pass up playing for England (he was born in England and his dad played for England), although playing in this friendly does not lock him up to England.

As for me, I am back to posting on this site as I know you guys missed me so much after my mini-vacation, but now the internet at my apartment is being pretty spotty (plus I have to play some catch- up with some work stuff), but thanks to Howie for holding down the fort while I was gone.

News and notes for Friday
December 16, 2011 (4:23 PM) by Matt Benson

I will keep this real quick and to the point today.

Cody Cropper is expected to miss the next 2-3 months after undergoing knee surgery this morning.  So much for his chance to appear on Ipswich Town’s gameday roster in the next few weeks.  He also tweeted the news this morning.

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has some nice things to say about Tim Ream.

Eric Lichaj is getting closer to returning to the field for Aston Villa.

US U-20 leftback Danny Potts signed a professional deal with West Ham United.  Potts has been playing with West Ham’s youth teams in recent years and is eligible to play for both the US and England.

John Kretlow of Yanks Abroad talked to Zak Whitbread about returning to the field.

UEFA held its draws for the knockout phases of Champions League and Europa League.  Jozy vs. Sacha.

Champions League
Bayer Leverkusen (David Yelldell) vs. Barcelona

Europa League
AZ (Jozy Altidore) vs. Anderlecht (Sacha Kljestan)
Hannover 96 (Steve Cherundolo) vs. Club Brugge
Schalke (Jermaine Jones) vs. FK Viktoria Plzeň
Sporting CP (Oguchi Onyewu) vs. Legia Warsaw

Enjoy the weekend.
