Links for Friday morning
June 28, 2012 (10:40 PM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of things that will hopefully pass some time while you are at work on Friday.

Franco Panizo recently talked to Stuart Holden about his recovery process.  Holden is also switching numbers from #8 to #22 next year.

Another injured Yank, Robbie Rogers, is closer to full recovery as well and is headed back to Leeds for preseason.

It looks like Carlos Bocanegra is going to reject having his contract transfer over to the new Rangers 2.0 company.

Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill has confirmed that the club has made an offer to Mike Grella.

According to Greg Seltzer, Stoke City have begun talks with the Houston Dynamo over a fee for Geoff Cameron.

Mathew Wagner recently talked to Steve Clark about his work permit fiasco and Hønefoss’ season so far in 2012.

Brian Sciaretta has an interview up with Omid Namazi, an American who is an assistant coach with Iranian national team.

Chris Wright has made the move from Magdeburg to fellow German Regionalliga side Berliner AK 07.

And Matt Taylor has left Paderborn for German 3. Liga club Preußen Münster.  They have already started their preseason and he has scored a few goals already.  He will be looking to regain his 3. Liga form from 2010-11 when he scored 17 goals for Rot Weiss Ahlen (tied for the third most in the 3. Liga).

Andrew Wooten and Kaiserslautern have also started up their preseason with a few games, including a 2-0 win over SVN Zweibrücken.  Wooten has been getting some starts up top in a 4-4-2.

Tyrone McCargo has been promoted from Nurnberg’s U-19 team to their U-23 team, meaning he will be playing in the Regionalliga this upcoming season (which means we can follow him a little bit better).

A few guys in Finland played on Thursday.  Daniel Antunez went the full 90 minutes in Inter Turku’s 4-0 loss to MYPA.  Etchu Tabe went the full 90 minutes in KuPS’ 3-0 loss to TPS.  And Mason Trafford went the full 90 minutes in IFK Mariehamn’s 1-0 win over Haka.

In case you missed it on Wednesday, Josh Gatt assisted on Molde’s first goal in their 4-3 win over Rosenborg in the NM Cupen.  You can check out some highlights here.

And finally, some more new kits for the 2012-13 season.  I know he is the goalkeeper, but Neal Kitson’s Northampton Town have some new home and away kits.  And in the event Villyan Bijev goes back out on loan to Fortuna Düsseldorf next season, they also have some new home and away kits.  I like the red/home shirt.

The return of late night links
March 30, 2012 (12:20 AM) by Matt Benson

Have we cooled down after Monday’s U-23 meltdown?  I took a couple days off from posting links to forgot about that (plus nothing overly exciting has happened this week except Herculez Gomez scoring goals blindfolded).

Speaking of Herc, he did an interview with The Best Soccer Show last week.

It looks like Jonathan Spector will be out for about another two weeks with his latest hamstring injury.  Hopefully he can return to the field soon to help Birmingham City in their bid for promotion.

Bobby Wood has been hit by the injury bug again and will be out for the rest of the season after another knee surgery.  It also comes at a bad time as his contract with 1860 Munich ends after this season.

Some of you might recognize the name Chris Wright from The OT Report with him scoring goals here and there for Magdeburg in the German Regionalliga.  They recently had a bit of a scoring drought, 558 minutes without a goal, so the fans did some fun things to try and help the team out before Wright ended the dry spell with a goal.

Three younger Americans have recently popped up at Nyköpings BIS in Sweden’s fourth tier.  Someone e-mailed me that Shaquille Phillips recently signed with the club.  Phillips is a 19-year-old centerback who has spent some time with Energie Cottbus’ youth teams in Germany and with Swedish side Dalkurd FF last season.  While reading up on him/the club, I also found out that Stefan Jerome and Paul Torres are also now at the club.  Jerome spent last season at Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Republic, while Torres played in college at Maryland and spent some time with the DC United youth academy.

Finally, I spotted this over at No Short Corners, but Josh Gatt made the Tippeligaen team of the week in a local newspaper in Norway.

Late night hump day links
June 1, 2011 (11:34 PM) by Matt Benson

A bunch of links for your soul.  Lets start off with the USMNT.

Ridge Mahoney has a story up with USA Today on Clint Dempsey.

John Godfrey has 10 observations about the Gold Cup roster.

US Soccer’s official facebook page has a bunch of training photos here, here and here.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Matthew over at The Shin Guardian knows his tactics about eleventy billion times more than I do.  So go check out his extensive preview on the US-Spain friendly.  You will become smarter (then come back over here so you can become dumber.  It’s always nice to get some balance in your life).

I have seen various people call Mikkel Diskerud both “Mix” and “Mixx”, so The USA 10 Kit went to the direct source to see which spelling is correct.  The verdict:  Mix.  I can now sleep easier tonight.

Jamie Hill talked to Freddy Adu about his time at Rizespor.

We don’t talk too often about the Yanks playing down south, but Herculez Gomez is on the move again.  He was traded to Estudiantes Tecos.  Tecos is also the home of fellow Americans Daniel Antunez (formerly of Finland’s Inter Turku) and Samuel Ochoa.

Since they traded away Gomez, Pachuca must have an American quota as there have been reports out today that DaMarcus Beasley is in talks with the club about making the move to Mexico.  Looks like he will go through some training with the club as well.

Preston Zimmerman tweeted that he will be leaving Mainz and will be moving “on to something better”.  Sounds like he will announce/tweet where on Friday.  Zimmerman had a pretty good season with Mainz’s reserve team, tallying seven goals in 29 games this season.

Youngster Chris Wright is moving teams within the German Regionalliga.  With Homburg getting relegated from the Regionalliga this past season, he signed with Magdeburg who play in the Regionalliga Nord.

We are up to three teams in our Gold Cup preview:  Costa Rica, Cuba and El Salvador.
