I should be sleeping, but here are some links
   June 6, 2012 (1:46 AM) by Matt

We have been mainly talking the USMNT around here lately, but here are some more club-oriented links (with some USMNT/U-20s stuff at the end).

Chievo Verona’s sporting director Luigi Sartori has told the media that they fully expect Michael Bradley to be on another team next season.  He claims that the club is hearing from top teams in Italy (Inter? Roma? Palermo?) as well as teams from Germany and England.

DaMarcus Beasley is staying at Puebla despite some interest from some other teams.

American midfielder Russell Canouse has signed a professional deal with TSG Hoffenheim this week.  The soon-to-be 17-year-old was Hoffenheim’s youth academy player of the year this past season and will join their U-19 team next season.

Staying in Germany, Parker Walsh, who played with Karlsruher SC II in the Regionallia this year, is a soon-to-be free agent and Greg Seltzer tells us that he has some suitors.

As for some U-20s news.

Luis Gil picked up an injury in camp last week, so Omar Salgado has been called in.  Before the team headed to South America this week, they played Houston Dynamo’s academy team in a scrimmage over the weekend with the U-20s winning 2-0.  Both goals were scored by Liverpool’s Villyan Bijev.

And for some USMNT stuff.

Here are some field level highlights of the Canada 0-0 draw.  And here are a few photos from the game.

Travis Clark talked to Terrence Boyd recently about his stint so far with the USMNT.

I will honestly admit that I know nothing about Antigua & Barbuda (we are playing two countries, right?), but luckily the guys over at The Shin Guardian know some stuff on the twin-island nation.

A few more USMNT links for Friday
   October 7, 2011 (11:16 AM) by Matt

Some more USMNT-oriented links before the weekend.

US Soccer has all its pre-match factoids and what not right here.  The US is 11-3-3 all-time against Honduras, including a 8-2-2 mark on American soil.

They also have some photos from Thursday’s training session up on Facebook.

As for some interviews with some players:  Christopher McCollum talked to Carlos Bocanegrea.  Jamie Hill talked to Michael Bradley.  And Franco Panizo talked to DaMarcus Beasley.

Panizo also has some more tidbits from this week’s training sessions over on Ives, including some comments from Jurgen Klinsmann about some notable roster omissions.  This has sort of been a “hot topic” (the story, not the cheesy store at malls) as of late, especially with Omar Gonzalez recently telling ESPN Insider ($$) that he would at least listen to Mexico if they come calling.  Gonzalez holds Mexican and American citizenship.

And from my own research, if the US does not win on Saturday, Jurgen Klinsmann would become the first USMNT coach to go winless in his first four matches since Lothar Osiander in 1986-87.  And by chance he goes winless on Saturday, he would need a win over Ecuador to avoid becoming the first USMNT coach to go winless in his first five matches since Gordon Bradley in 1973.

And the US’ one goal is the fewest by the team under a new coach through three games since the US only scored one goal in Walter Chyzowych’s first three games as coach in 1976.  The US then scored two goals against Canada in his fourth game.

So many links you could build a fence
   September 20, 2011 (9:08 PM) by Matt

Yay for cheesy post titles!

HB Køge defender Brad Rusin might return to full training this week after picking up a groin injury recently.  HB Køge are currently sitting in last place of the Danish Superliga table with only three points.

Bundesliga Fanatic have their part two of a recent interview with former USMNT player and current assistant coach Thomas Dooley right here.  You can also check out part one right here.

You want a video interview with Edson Buddle after scoring two goals this weekend?  Well, I have a link for you.

Or maybe you haven’t had your weekly Jurgen Klinsmann fix, so here are three links about Klinsi:  here, here and here.

Remember when Gale Agbossoumonde played with the USMNT down in South Africa for a friendly and looked like one of the bright spots for the future?  Then his career path got stuck in limbo land then he found an out in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt?  Well, he is sort of back in limbo land.

Finally, Brian Sciaretta works his German magic and found another American playing in Germany with Nurnberg’s U-19 team.  Antonio Materazzo is an 18-year-old defender who spent time with the New York Red Bulls youth system in recent years.
