Preston Zimmerman leaves SV Darmstadt 98, apparently plans to retire
   June 17, 2013 (3:41 PM) by Howie

Preston Zimmerman, who has spent the last two years in the 3. Liga with SV Darmstadt 98 and had reasonable success on a poor team, is apparently stepping away from the game to return to school:

The lilies have to survive next year without Preston Zimmerman, Stefan Hickl and Marcus Steegmann. The trio announced Monday his departure from Böllenfalltor known. Zimmerman attacker wants to end his athletic career with only 24 years and initially after completing his studies to work. ”This decision is not easy for me. I am most grateful for SV 98 and his fans for the wonderful time,” the American said. His strike partner Steeg man rights defenders Hickl and pulled it free to the West division side Viktoria Köln.

Surprised to see another member of the 2007 U-20 squad retire? Think an MLS unretirement happens in three months?

OT Player of the Week
   March 18, 2013 (3:10 PM) by Matt

Howie’s Pick – Preston Zimmerman (SV Darmstadt 98 – German 3. Liga)

Preston Zimmeran scored for the second straight week, this time the lone goal in Darmstadt 98′s 1-0 win over Osnabrück (highlights here).

Matt’s Pick – Geoff Cameron (Stoke City – English Premier League)

Geoff Cameron keeps getting thrown around on the field for Stoke City and has done well to adapt to that position and this weekend was no different.  Cameron got the start at leftback and did well enough to earn WhoScored.com Man of the Match honors and earn my POTW honors.

Europa League Thursday links
   February 14, 2013 (12:02 AM) by Matt

Lets start off with some Europa League-oriented links as the Round of 32 begins today.

Brad Friedel is getting the start for Tottenham as they take on Lyon in Europa League.  Friedel has started only three matches (1 Europa League and 2 FA Cup) since the beginning of December.

Left off the US U-20 roster, Marc Pelosi did not make Liverpool’s Europa League travel squad for today’s game against Zenit St. Petersburg.

While US fans were holding out hope for Pelosi to get the 20th spot on the US U-20 team, Tab Ramos announced yesterday that Colorado Rapids’ Dillon Serna will get that spot.  The US U-20 team kicks off the CONCACAF U-20 Championship on Monday against Haiti at 5:30 PM Central on Fox Soccer.

Steven Goff does his yearly look over US Soccer’s tax records.  This time for the time period between April 2011 through March 2012.  The US had a shortfall of $3.1 million over that time frame.

Brian Sciaretta caught up with Matt Besler to talk about his first callup with the USMNT.

Greg Seltzer clears his notebook with various stats and notes.

Sean Cunningham is currently training with Norwegian Adeccoligaen side Hødd.

A couple guys were saw the field yesterday.  Preston Zimmerman got the start and played 48 minutes in Darmstadt 98′s 0-0 draw to Babelsberg 03 in German 3. Liga action.  Justin Moose scored a goal in SJK’s 4-2 win in some tournament called IV KOMIA.  And Kenneth Di Vita Jensen scored a goal for Hønefoss and Steve Clark played the first half in a 3-2 win over HJK Helsinki in a friendly.  Here are highlights from the match with his goal coming around the 4:50 mark.
